On 10th April 2010, the youth members of TamuDhee UK ambitiously organised a concert event called "Soltini Nite" at Princess Hall, Aldershot. The main purpose of the night was to promote our rich and diverse culture amongst the younger generations of Gurungs. Majority of Gurung are fully aware of the importance we emphasize on relation amongst us whether we are blood related or caste related. As Gurung, it brings us closer when we called someone soltini, bhuthae, thagu and etc and makes our community stronger. However, this event also had multi purpose and that was to raise money for underprivileged but are academically intellectual and diligent students in Nepal. TamuDhee UK strongly believes in helping to empower an individual professionally and personally.
Soltini Nite was the first ever event organized solely by youth team and it was a profound success. The night included of 7 Nepali bands and 1 dance group. We saw the first big performance of the band 'Jude" and one of many great performances by "JPT rockerz". The performances were greatly enjoyed by the crowd and the night was perfectly ended with the dance party, entertained by DJ Bishal Gurung.
We had a high turnout than our expectation, which helped us to increase our profit. We also had raffle draw which included prizes such as a night at Bed and Breakfast at Alpine Hotel, Blackpool for two to free haircut/hair treatment at Aveda Salon. The numbers of the raffle tickets sold were 60. We also had many Nepali local and national businesses sponsoring the night and without them it would have been hard to raise the fund/capital successfully to enrich many young students’ lives. In the future we hope to organize many charitable events.
